If a number keeps turning up on your caller ID but the person doesn’t leave a message, it is human nature to find out who is calling this number. In such cases, it may be as simple as dialing *69, which gives you the number and the opportunity to call back the last number called. Such websites offer their services for free and can provide you with just about any phone number-name match you can ask for.

In cases where the phone number is a cell phone, you will have a harder time finding who is calling this number. If the number is a cell phone, you have to use a special cell phone look up site that combines the databases of all of the cell phone company records and stores them in one location. Such a service costs money to get the information, however.  You will pay around $10 for a single cell phone lookup and you have the option to find out who is calling this number at any time you want for a subscription fee of $30-$40 a year. This might not be the best option for those of us who just want to look up a single number and don’t anticipate looking up any more numbers.

There are a couple of occasions where finding out who is calling this number is a practical impossibility. If the individual is calling you from an unlisted number, you can’t connect the number to the name and, in fact, you won’t receive the number on your caller ID service in the first place. You needn’t even try to look up such a cell phone number because it is completely untraceable and you will be forced to call the number to find out who it belongs to.
